ICOB Election 2026

This is your masjid. Nominate, vote, and serve in your community.

All registered voters will receive a unique voting link via the email and phone number they provided. Voting will begin on Friday, May 1st at 1:00 PM and end on Saturday, May 2nd at 6:00 PM.

ICOB will hold its annual Executive Committee (EC) and Women’s Division Executive Committee (WDEC) elections online this year.

Muhammed Usame Onus is a Visiting Scholar at Indiana University, where he continues his academic research. He is an Associate Professor of Islamic Law at Marmara University’s Faculty of Theology in Turkey. With over a decade of teaching experience, he has specialized in Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) and traditional Islamic sciences.
A graduate of Marmara University, Dr. Onus completed his postgraduate and doctoral studies at the same institution. He began his academic career as a research assistant at Marmara University and previously served as a visiting researcher at Columbia University in New York. Since earning his Ph.D., he has dedicated his career to both teaching and scholarly research in his field.
Onus’s primary research interests include the history of Islamic law, the Hanbali school of jurisprudence, classical and modern Muslim political thought, and the historical development of legal and institutional structures in the Middle East.

I was born in Saudi Arabia, raised in Saudi Arabia as well as in India. I'm a Mechanical Engineer working as a Quality Specialist. I've been in Bloomington for about 3 years. My vision for the Muslim community is to see us grow together with love, unity, and purpose; supporting one another, holding tight to our faith, the opportunity to serve as Vice President of the masjid, in shaa Allah for the sake of Allah, I’ll do my best to bring people together and make sure our community feels heard, valued, and connected.

I'm Abdurraheem, working at Cummins as a Reliability Engineer and I've got a master's in Industrial Engineering. Hailing originally from Aurangabad, India. I have loved being a part of this community for the last three years and now it’s time to serve, aiming to bring us all closer together.

I was born and raised in Pakistan and I graduated from O'Neill School IU Bloomington with an MPA concentrating in nonprofit management. I am founder and CEO of a US registered charity, STEP (steppk.org), that empowers people in Pakistan. I love our Muslim community in Bloomington, you might remember when I made Pakora & Paratha during Ramadan. I will do my best to serve our community as the General Secretary of the EC, Inshallah.

Assalamualaikum. I am Dr. Sajal Islam, a Postdoctoral Fellow at IU-CREATE. My research is on the space radiation effects on semiconductor devices.
I am honored to be nominated for Dawah Secretary. I hope to serve with compassion, build meaningful connections, support new and prospective Muslims, and help create a welcoming and engaging masjid environment. I plan to contribute through thoughtful outreach initiatives and collaborative programs that benefit both our community and the wider public.

My name is Muhammad Sualeh and I am a rising junior majoring in Neuroscience. I have been attending the Islamic Center of Bloomington for two years now where I have had the opportunity to become familiar with the many Dawah catered events. This year I was the religious chair for MSA and I also had the privilege to be on Dawah Committee which has helped me get a personal feel and understanding about the essence of the community and what functions well and what can be improved. I am committed to continuing this work and Inshallah strengthen our community.

Assalamu Alaykum, my name is Mikael Aqeel and I am from Carmel, Indiana. Currently, I am a student at Indiana University majoring in Informatics as well as a minor in Business as well. Prior to college, I served my community by leading the youth group of volunteers at Al Salam. This included planning youth Qiyams during Ramadan, delegating tasks at a large Fundraising gala, and handling set-up/clean up at smaller events throughout the year. During college, I've kept busy by working on the PSA (Pakistanj Student Association) board as an Event Chair, the Muslims in Tech club as a Marketing chair, and the MSA on the outreach committee. I hope to use the skills i've gained within each of these experiences and in order to serve the Masjid to the best of my ability InshaAllah.

Loay Zack moved to Bloomington in 2022 and currently works at IU Health. He enjoys outdoor activities and sports, often spending his free time staying active and exploring the area. He is an active member of the community and values connecting with others and being involved locally. Loay is originally from Jordan.

I was born and raised in Bloomington and I’ve been attending the masjid since I was a kid. I am an incoming senior at IU studying Informatics. I currently organize and attend various masjid activities and hope to dedicate my time to help build ICOB’s online presence for the community by building a consistent and high-quality digital presence—filming lectures, livestreaming classes via Zoom, and creating impactful social media content. I aim to not only document what happens at ICOB, but to amplify its reach so that its benefit extends beyond the walls of the masjid.

President:Dina Eissa

My name is Dina Eissa. I am originally from Egypt, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree majoring in Chemistry and Physics, with a minor in Philosophy. I later moved to the US and completed my PhD in Chemical Physics at The Ohio State University (OSU).
Throughout my academic career, I have made it a priority to stay actively involved in our community. During my undergraduate years, I served as the Academic Head and President of SABEEL. In this student organization, we met weekly to discuss fundamental topics, such as our purpose (from religious respective)and the Muslim perspective on seeking knowledge (intention, ethics..etc).During this time, I also had the valuable opportunity to take courses in Islamic studies taught by scholars from Al-Azhar.
When I moved to Ohio, I became heavily involved in community outreach. I spent several years working with the Ask A Muslim organization and got involved in dawah. This involved being part of the weekly dawah tables on campus and having conversation with non-muslims with different backgrounds.
Alongside my community work, I served as the President of the OPTICA student chapter at OSU, which gave me additional practical, hands-on experience in organizational leadership and administration.

Assalamualaikum, I’m Afiya! I graduated from Indiana University last May with a BS in psychology. I have been living in Bloomington my whole life and love the community that has come together at ICOB. These past two years I have been able to serve as vice president of the WDEC alongside many wonderful people and was able to contribute to a number of social events consisting of spiritual reflection, meaningful conversations, memorable moments, and fun!

In the coming year, I want to continue to contribute to events and provide a platform for connections while also strengthening the sense of community among the sisters and the community as a whole. Additionally, I want to help individuals feel supported and connected to their faith through these events while incorporating more fun-filled, challenging activities such as bi-weekly badminton in the summer inshAllah. :)

Outreach: Danya Rimawi

My name is Danya and I will be a junior at IU. I volunteered this year for the Outreach committee and would love to continue by leading in this role to engage Muslims and non-Muslims with the ICOB community. I plan to host biweekly beginner-friendly islamic educational events for sisters, interfaith events with the broader Bloomington community, ensure ICOB is a welcoming and engaging place for all Muslims, and be receptive to new ideas and initiatives.

Asalamualkum, my name is Fatima. I am a Bloomington local and a recent IU grad. InshaAllah, I hope to strengthen the sisterhood in our community through weekly halaqas and gatherings that encourage learning, reflection, and meaningful connections.

Youth and Kids Coordinator: Alima Adam Diakité

Born and raised in Mali, Alima moved to the US over a decade ago to pursue her degree. 
She obtained a BS in Mining Engineering from WVU and currently works as a mine engineer for a gypsum company in southern Indiana. 
She hosted the Little Muslim Book Club in Fall ‘25 and Spring ‘26, where they focused on values found in the short surah of the Qur’an such us kindness, gratitude and patience. 

Being a mother herself, she has a vested interested in raising the next generation of Muslim with a strong Muslim identity. 
Her goal is to ensure kids/youth fall in love with Allah first and foremost, and are on a mission to draw close to Him.
She intends to do so by meeting kids/youth at their level and use age-appropriate words, ways and activities. 
Because she believes wholeheartedly when you reach the youth’s hearts and Allah becomes their “best friend”, everything else is bound to fall into place bi idhniLlah.

Women’s education: Chaïmaà Moukhtar

I bring over 20 years of experience teaching Arabic and Qur’an, and I am a ḥāfiẓa of the Qur’an with professional expertise in tajwīd. My work has focused on supporting converts and engaging diverse communities through education, mentorship, and meaningful dialogue. Raised in intercultural and interfaith environments, I have developed communication skills that enable me to build bridges and present Islam with clarity, depth, and compassion. I also speak English, Arabic, and French, and I am developing Italian and Persian. My Ph.D. is in Middle Eastern and Islamic studies. I have delivered speeches, halaqas, workshops, and interfaith discussions addressing ethical approaches to religion, peacebuilding, and the relationship between psychology and faith. My approach is interactive and community-centered, grounded in communicative and holistic teaching methods that foster engagement and lasting impact. I have also been awarded by the Nobel Prize Education Organization in their Teacher Summit for integrating innovative, psychology-informed educational practices. I am deeply committed to outreach through both intellectual and philanthropic efforts, and to supporting converts through structured educational programs and ongoing guidance. I believe these experiences equip me to effectively strengthen outreach initiatives and serve the ICOB community with professionalism, sincerity, and impact. I can also help with women's education, but I am more passionate about outreach. If anyone else holds the positions, I will also be there to help. I am genuinely passionate about making a difference.

Assalamu Alaikum! My name is Haifa, a lifelong ICOB community member and graphic designer for a Muslim nonprofit. I’ve served on the Executive Committee for 2 years and have volunteered in many different capacities over the years.
